Hooray!

Now that I've cut the crap off my computer, I've reclaimed 2GB of storage!

Yay!

Now to show you the stuff I do in Product Design.
Admittedly, I'm not the biggest fan of Product Design...I'm not too sure why, but I think it's just that I prefer to more 2D things than 3D (like Graphic Design). Still, I'll show you anyway!

So for our coursework, we could do any project we wanted, provided we had a client. I chose my mum and at the moment she is selling English blankets through a little known site called eBay. I thought hypothetically: what if she had a real store where she could sell her wares in a very nice way? So along with logo, price tag and bag I decided to design a shelving unit to present the products.

Below is a 1:4 scale model of it:

It's made of 2 laser-cut sheets of plywood which one simply doubles up and slots together (although I still think it needs glue to support it all).

This design is based on the company's logo I designed

See the resemblance?

I know this is all in theory, but I'd love it if my mum were to take elements from my design work and use it in the real world like, say, on a website. Then it wouldn't all just be going towards my grade, but also a...cause..(is that the right word?)

I'll keep you posted :)

Gosh, darn it

Oh cripes, it appears I've run out of space on my computer!
This means I'm in epic-archive mode and am uploading all of my files into the sky as we speak.
This also (obviously) means I can't save stuff onto it at the moment.
I thought it'd be a good idea to be all organized and everything by saving all of my Product Design images as Photoshop .eps before I got to my lessons, but no! 'No room on disk!' my computer says...:(

Because of all the big files my computer is uploading, I'll post some images of what I do in Product Design at a later date. Sorry, reader(s).

Oh and before you say "How could you contradict yourself? You've clearly uploaded a photo to this post!", no, it is a mere illusion (it's from a URL, so no uploading required)!

Mind Kontrolle

Have you heard the rumour that Lady GaGa is in fact a mind controlled satanist? If you haven't, you have to read it.

As pathetically ridiculous this conspiracy is, it got me thinking about mind control. So I started researching and it's in fact extremely intruiging! Here's my condensed version of mind controlling history:

There has been a lot of mind controlling over many years such as the brainwashing by cults and propaganda by...well basically everyone! But there was apparently a mind controlling program in the US which started off under the name MK ULTRA - scary name for a scary program! There were many other subprojects that came from this MK ULTRA project including Project Monarch. This project subjected victims to an electric shock in which they were in a state where they could be 'programmed'.
These 'programmes' could be as harmless as ALPHA (enhanced memory) to OMEGA (self-destruction). And these programmes could be activated through triggers such as certain words or images. It is even thought that there are triggers in certain Disney films that were purposefully made for this.

Oh the butterfly? Yep, that's a Monarch butterfly. That was one of these sinister triggers.

These programs now cease to exist. In fact they haven't existed for quite a few years now. Phew!

Now
This got me thinking.
Could I make an art project out of this?

I think so.

INKS

For my new special design graphics friend, I dedicate this post unto you ;)

Aren't inks the funnest? You just have to use them and suddenly, your picture looks so cool! I love the way the colours blend together to create such a vivid composition! You wanna know how many inks I used? Only three: Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Crazy!

These paintings are copies of copies of photos from the very lovely website www.dazeddigital.com For inspiration and lots of art and fashion and photography news, check the site out. They even do a free online version of their magazine 'Dazed & Confused' (but i prefer the hard copies!)
These are the initial sketches of these images:

And you can find the original versions on that website i recommended...i just can't find the originals myself - but they're there!

Here's something Polaroid for you!

I just got this in the post today:

The Polaroid Pogo Printer (bit of a mouthful)
It's a mobile printer that prints out little pictures via Bluetooth or connecting your camera to it by USB.
So, here we go, sending some of my stuff by my camera...

...and within a minute or so...tadah! a photo!

But not just any photo...

...a STICKER PHOTO!!! ain't that sexy?

Now this is deffo one of the futures of Polaroid - quick, high quality printouts, no ink (the ink is in the photographic paper), portable AND cheap!
How much you say? If you hunt around on ebay, you can get this new and a 10-pack of photo paper for £20!!
RECOMMENDED!
PS...yeah, we know that Polaroid photo paper is expensive right? well this one isn't! C'mon, get yourself one!

I love Sanna Annukka

Doesn't it look great? It's so intricate - yet, somewhat simple at the same time. I love these blocky shapes, but they're so organic at the same time.
Ever since someone in my Graphics class introduced me to the half Finnish illustrator's work, it has popped up many other times over the year or two.
In the [overpriced, yet very high quality] grafik magazine 175, she describes herself as "simplistic in form but certainly not minimalist" and you can see this.

Oh, how I wish I could own one of her beautiful prints...but of course, money is an issue.

But it's not just 2D work she does, in her little online shop she sells 'Soul Birds' and she describes them like so:

'In Karelia there was an ancient belief in the Sielulintu or Soul bird. The Sielulintu was thought to deliver the soul to newborn babies and also to transport the soul to the afterlife at the moment of death. It was believed the Sielulintu protected a persons soul at it's most vulnerable; when dreaming, and it was tradition to keep a carved wooden bird by the bedside to keep the soul safe during sleep.'

They are so beautiful, aren't they?
I'm considering buying one for my mum for her birthday because she likes these charming objects that are associated with nature. £75 just for the small one in the foreground though...ooer...
I guess you're buying quality. And for the artwork.

You'll find more of her work at her website.
